ghosts of seasons past are a valuable source or inspiration and
references for modern day designers
and at the same time a
challenge regarding the way one chooses to exploit them.
Wether we like it or not, the postmodern world is more than
eager to open windows to the past in a quest for a most wanted salvation
from our boredom and dulness.
The Iconic Recyclation is a
project organized by the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in
Prague and deals exactly with this question, the usage and creative
reinterpretation of elements from the work of same iconic designers, in
the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, YSL, Prada, Celine etc.
pieces were a donation by the rich collection of dr. Elisabeth Laengle.
But the translation and recreation of these icons into
contemporary figures is in this case a literal process. The young
designers were given actual pieces from their icons of choice which they
had to reconstruct in order to give birth to a new hybrid, a
coexistence of their own and their iconís aesthetic.
